Inspired by Nature, printmaker Lou Tonkin
In her studio, tucked away in the Cornish countryside in the south-west of England, artist and printmaker Lou Tonkin creates beautiful, nature-inspired prints. As her pup Twig darts around the studio, Lou reflects on her work and life in the countryside.
“I have been fascinated by nature and the hedgerow since I was a little girl, when my grandfather used to take my sister and me on walks through the countryside. I can sit for hours watching birds flitting in and out.”
With great attention to detail, Lou carefully carves her lino blocks after first sketching her designs onto the surface. “I always work with the seasons, observing and documenting how nature evolves.”
Lou produces her prints in limited editions and has developed a beautiful homeware collection featuring organic cotton tea towels and enamel tableware decorated with her printed illustrations.
