Pies are the best winter comfort food there is. A piping-hot savoury filling topped with crusty pastry or mash, straight from the oven.
Having a traditional British Steak Pie topped with golden puff pastry and served with mixed greens is like having dinner in an old country farmhouse. Or try a creamy Chicken, Leek and Mustard Pie, these small pies look really special, but you can also make one big pie instead of individual ones. There is a creamy Cod and Mackerel Fish Pie topped with mashed potatoes and a traditional Shepherd's Pie with a potato and parsnip mash, of course served with Mushy Peas with mint.
The Cottage Pie is vegetarian with a stewed lentil and mushroom filling, topped with pumpkin puree. Other vegetarian favourites are the Winter Veg Pie topped with savoury shortcrust with fennel seeds and a golden Potato and Leek Pie that is super easy to make. The small pasties are great for lunch or to take on a winter picknick. There is a Cornish Pasty with beef, celeriac, onion and potatoes and a traditional Potato, Onion and Cheese Pasty, both are delicious to serve with the easy-to-make Beetroot Relish.
